ACE UK named as ENDS Green Economy Awards finalist

13/08/2013 ACE UK named as ENDS Green Economy Awards finalist

ACE UK has been named as a finalist in the prestigious ENDS Green Economy Awards 2013, in the Resource Management (circular economy) category.

ACE UK, which represents Tetra Pak, Elopak and SIG Combibloc, the leading manufacturers of beverage cartons in Europe, entered the UK’s first dedicated beverage carton recycling facility for the award, which opens in September. A partnership project with paper and packaging producer Sonoco Alcore, the facility is capable of recycling up to 40% (25,000 tonnes) of the cartons manufactured for the UK market – some 1.25 billion cartons.

Sonoco Alcore will take advantage of the strength and quality of the virgin wood fibres found in cartons by turning them into industrial-strength coreboard at its paper mill located on the same site – meeting the criteria of the award, which recognises an ‘outstanding resource efficiency, waste elimination, recycling or reuse initiative bringing the circular economy a step nearer’.
