ACE UK response to Waste Policy Review

15/06/2011

ACE UK welcomes the Government’s Review of Waste Policy in England. We fully support increased recycling across all materials and making it easier for consumers to recycle. Over one in three councils now collect cartons for recycling from kerbside, and the industry continues to push further.

We were also pleased to see an emphasis on the sustainable use of resources over the entire lifecycle of products as well as the promotion of life cycle thinking in all waste policy and waste management decisions.  Such promotion will also aid the decision-making process for the choice of materials at the start of life, in the case of the beverage carton, for example, a significant part of its low carbon footprint stems from the low amounts of energy required to harvest the trees as compared with the sourcing of more finite resources.  Its strong fibres can then be recycled into countless other products.
