Richard Hands, Chief Executive of the Alliance for Beverage Cartons & the Environment (ACE) UK, comments:
“ACE UK very much welcomes the Consumer Goods Forum’s Global Protocol on Packaging Sustainability and the common measurement system it provides. Our member companies – Elopak, SIG Combibloc and Tetra Pak – have been actively involved in its development, and are particularly encouraged to see the importance of renewable content and material chain of custody recognised.
“These indicators give brand owners and retailers greater insight into the sustainability of their packaging, and how committed to reducing impacts their packaging suppliers are.
“If widely applied, the CGF’s Global Protocol on Packaging Sustainability will provide consistent and comparable data, allowing progress to be measured more easily.
“Sustainability has become a measurable and competitive parameter for packaging. This Protocol will drive further progress in impact reduction throughout the supply chain.”
