As well as working closely with local authorities to increase beverage carton recycling, ACE UK has created a system to help schools, other education establishments and businesses to set up a collection solution.

While local authorities are normally responsible for collecting school waste, ACE UK has developed a simple system which allows schools and businesses to link directly into their local contractor to recycle their cartons. Benefits of school collection schemes

Just some of the benefits ACE UK has identified in setting up successful beverage carton collection schemes at schools include:

  • linking to the school curriculum
  • educating children about recycling
  • minimising waste going to landfill
  • linking to the Government’s Eco Schools initiative
  • linking with the healthy schools initiatives

Costs involved

ACE UK is partly subsidising this project, although, unfortunately, it cannot provide a cost neutral service. To understand the costs involved in getting cartons collected from your school or business, follow the steps below:

  • visit the interactive schools and businesses recycling map by clicking here
  • find out if your area has a contractor by clicking on the area of the country your school or business is in (to find out which District Council your school is in, use the Direct.gov website)
  • if there is a contractor able to collect cartons from schools and/or businesses in your area, the company name(s) will be displayed on the right hand side of the map
  • click on the link by the contractor's name(s) and follow the instructions to contact them for a quote. Please ensure that you provide them with all the required information
  • the contractor will then provide a quote

If there is not a contractor collecting cartons in your area, please contact the ACE UK recycling team, referencing the local authority area where your school or business is located. It will also be useful if you tell us who currently collects your waste for recycling. We will then store your details and email you when we have identified a contractor to cover your area.
